First Draft – a project of the Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics and Public Policy at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government – uses research-based methods to fight mis- and disinformation online. Additionally, it provides practical and ethical guidance in how to find, verify and publish content sourced from the social web.
We may update our site from time to time, and will endeavor to keep all content up to date. However, we do not guarantee that any work that we publish will be free from errors or omissions.
We may suspend, withdraw, discontinue or change all or any part of our site without notice. We will not be liable to you if, for any reason, our site is unavailable at any time, for any period.

CONTENT AND STANDARDS
Content on firstdraftnews.org refers to written words, videos, podcasts, presentations and interactive services.
As a visitor of this site, you must not copy, distribute or resell any content from the site. You are free to share the content on social media, print, screen-grab or email for non-commercial purposes only, but in all cases must credit First Draft as the source. We consider an appropriate credit to be the name “First Draft”, and request that you provide or hyperlink to the URL firstdraftnews.org where possible.
First Draft has a policy to never include potentially disturbing or offensive language or images on its site unless, in our opinion, inclusion of such content will provide educational value to our community. In these instances, we will display a clear warning at the top of the page and ensure that any disturbing or offensive elements are not independently shareable on social media.
We will not knowingly violate legal rights or deliberately deceive users, and will only ever publish information or comment that is to the best of our knowledge appropriate, honest and correct.
DATA AND PRIVACY
If you choose to sign up to First Draft directly then we will collect your email address. If you sign in using your Twitter, Facebook, and/or Google credentials, you may provide additional personal information such as your real name, age, location and profile photograph. You acknowledge that by providing this information you allow us to identify you and therefore you may not be anonymous. No personally identifiable information will be made public to other visitors to the site unless you have chosen to include these details in any public packs that you create.
Any information that we collect about you will only be used to administer our site and for internal operations, including troubleshooting, analysis and testing. We will use your email address to notify you about any news updates or changes to our service.
When you sign up to First Draft, you will be added to our Mailchimp mailing list, as you have expressed that you would like to receive direct email notifications from First Draft. You can unsubscribe from notification emails at any point in your account page firstdraftnews.org/saved or by clicking the unsubscribe link in the email footer.
By using our site, you consent to such processing and you warrant that all data provided by you is accurate.
All information you provide to us is stored on secure server. You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and we ask you not to share a password with anyone. You may delete your account at any point by clicking ‘My account’ in firstdraftnews.org/saved.
We will do our best to protect your personal data but we cannot guarantee the security of your data transmitted to our site; any transmission is at your own risk. We will use strict procedures and security features to try to prevent unauthorised access.
First Draft uses Google analytics to track how you are using the site, your browsing behaviour, journey and device or browser used. No personally identifiable information is collected via Google analytics. This information is used to help improve the experience for the users.
For the purpose of the Data Protection Act 1998 (the Act), the data controller is Eyewitness Media Hub Ltd.
The Act gives you the right to access information held about you. Your right of access can be exercised in accordance with the Act. Any access request may be subject to a fee of £10 to meet our costs in providing you with details of the information we hold about you.
